Beacon Theatre Information
Designed by renowned architect Walter Ahlschlager, the Beacon Theatre was constructed in 1929. Since then it has been the proud host to important cultural events, concerts, and performances, seeing the likes of Steely Dan, The Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and The Allman Brothers Band pass through its doors. In addition to that, the venue has hosted special events including film premieres, comedy events, and speeches by figures such as Bill Clinton and the His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 1976, the theatre was designated a New York landmark building by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Committee.
In 2009, the Madison Square Garden Company completed a full restoration of the venue. Based on in-depth research in addition to careful on-site examination of the original painting techniques and decoration, they returned the theatre to its former splendor of the Roaring Twenties, winning several awards for its incredible architectural restoration.
